How to Measure for a Dog Harness and Dog Collar

Not all dogs are built the same, some have stockier builds, some have thinner necks, some have longer torsos. So not every small dog will fit into a small collar or harness, which is something you might not have realized the first time you went shopping for dog gear. Perhaps the last time you bought a harness or dog collar for your pet, it didn’t go so well. Maybe it was the right length, but a little too tight around the middle, or loose around the collar. If so, you’re not alone.

We recommend measuring your dog before buying a dog collar or harness, please don’t guess!

Our sizes go on actual measurements rather than a breed guide as the key to a good, comfy fit is getting the right size dog collar or harness for your dog. There are different types of collars and harnesses. See below the various products and the guidelines.

Measurement #A – Head & Ears

Measure the largest part of your dog’s head, which includes the ears. This allows the collar to slip over the dog’s head comfortably.

Measurement #B – Behind the ears

Measure the smallest part of the dog’s neck, which is right behind the ears.

If your dog has a thick coat, be sure to pull the tape measure or string through the coat and measure right behind the ears.

Measurement #C – Mid-Neck

Measure the mid-neck of your dog (the point where you prefer the collar to rest on the neck) using a cloth measuring tape. If you do not have a cloth tape measure, use a piece of string and then measure the string. Pull the tape or string up to your dogs mid-neck with no slack.

If your dog has a thick coat, be sure to pull the tape measure or string through the coat and to the base of your dog’s mid-neck.

If your dog has loose neck skin, be sure to pull the tape measure or string through the loose skin slightly.

If your dog is very furry make sure you measure its neck not the volume of hair on it, pull the meter tight around dogs neck and give it enough slack to fit two fingers underneath.

PLEASE TAKE CARE WHEN TAKING MEASUREMENTS, WE WILL NOT EXCHANGE OR REFUND A COLLAR THAT DOES NOT FIT AS THIS WOULD BE NOT OUR FAULT!

How to Measure Your Dog - 4 easy Steps

screenshot.418.jpg

STEP 1: A-B Breastbone: Measure from point A (Breastbone) and go between the legs to point B (Midrib) in a straight line. Use a flexible cloth tape measure.

STEP 2: B-D Chest: Measure around the body of the dog with a flexible cloth tape measure. You should be starting at the bottom of the rib cage and going up and over the back and then back down to where you started.

STEP 3: Weight: While chest and breastbone measurements are the most accurate ways to fit a dog, our company uses weight to guide sizing. If you’re having trouble getting your furry friend on the scale, weigh yourself first, then pick up your pooch and weigh the two of you together. The difference will be the weight of your dog.

STEP 4: Please provide us your dog's breed. It will help us and other future buyers a lot if we know your dog's breed.

WARRENTY

open-close-arrowGuarantee on Fastners

It's extremely important to have a reliable fastners and not break equipment during your daily walks or workouts. Both for safety and performance reasons, fitting a Carabiner or Bull Snap lock is strongly recommended for strong, pulling and power dogs. There is no guarantee on the standard snap hooks if they break or fail. The standard version snap hooks are for low profile and easy going dog breeds.

open-close-arrowStandard metal, Stainless steel or aluminum and salt water

Rusting is a common form of corrosion, which occurs when metal atoms react with their environment. Salt water does not make a metal rust, but it accelerates the rusting process because electrons move more easily in salt water than they do in pure water. Stainless steel is not an option since salt water will damage stainless steel as easy as standard metal. The sum of all these chemical reactions makes the rust flake, so it falls off the iron and exposes new iron, which can then also begin to rust. Not all metals rust. For example, aluminum doesn’t rust because it has a protective layer of aluminum oxide on its surface. This stops the metal coming into direct contact with water (or moisture in the air) and oxygen. Our AustriAlpin COBRA buckles and D-ring don't rust.

open-close-arrowEmbroidery

The embroidery has no warranty. There is a chance that the embroidery will be damaged by your dog's scratching or chafing. This creates frays and breaks in the embroidery. You agree to this condition as soon as you order an embroidered collar. Refunds are not issued for embroidered items.

Shipment

open-close-arrowIf i am not at home, what will happen to my package?

If you're not at home, the postman will leave a note at your house, so you can pick it up at your local post office.

Sometimes the postman forgets about this note so if the package is late, you can always check yourself at the post office. You can contact us any time for the track & trace code if necessary.

Please ask your neighbours as well, because sometimes the postman delivers a package there.

Normally the package remains with the post office for 1 to 2 weeks before they send it back to us. Please make sure you pick it up on time.
